Undocumented African migrants use Sudan to reach Libya

The UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR, and the Sudanese government say more than 200 people cross the border into Sudan every day, but only a third of them use legal access points.

And the eastern border is particularly open as there is no official barrier and smugglers use it to get undocumented migrants to Libya.

Sudan has an obligation to stop them as has been given nearly $280m by the European Union to combat undocumented migration, but it says it cannot prevent illegal entries.

Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan reports from Kassala in eastern Sudan.
