Key US health officials have urged Americans to continue to wear masks and practise social distancing, despite the states of Texas and Mississippi dropping nearly all coronavirus curbs from next week.
US President Joe Biden who called for mask wearing during his first 100 days in office, urged Americans to "follow the science".
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the failure to do so could lead to a fourth wave in COVID-19 cases, even as the US increases the rate of its vaccinations.
