US surpasses 20 million COVID cases on first day of 2021

The United States has entered the new year with few signs that its rampant coronavirus outbreak can be contained.
It has reported more than 20 million coronavirus cases and faces the threat of a more infectious strain.
And as infections rise, vaccinations are being carried out slower than expected.
Now, Republican Senator Mitt Romney has called for stepped-up efforts, including the enlistment of medical students, veterinarians and emergency medical workers to administer vaccines.
