The US's top general says he believes a group linked to ISIL is behind the ambush that killed four soldiers on October 4 in Niger.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, warned that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, known as ISIS) group was trying to establish a physical presence in Niger, as the group loses ground in Iraq and Syria.

Meanwhile, the widow of one of the fallen soldiers has made a television appearance, in which she accused President Trump of being insensitive in a condolence call.

Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo reports from New York.
