Thousands of Venezuelan have fled to Colombia since their country’s army began fighting what it said were Colombian armed groups along the border between the two countries.
The refugees say Venezuelan soldiers have killed innocent civilians, accusing them of being rebel fighters.
Venezuela’s defence minister Vladimir Padrino said the armed forces were obliged to defend the country from irregular groups but that human rights must be respected and that the events at the border would be investigated.
Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports from the border town of Arauquita, Colombia.
