A villager in northwest China slipped in heavy rain on his way home on July 2, 2022, and fell to the bottom of a 100-metre (328ft) deep sinkhole in Gansu province. Rescuers used ropes to descend into the sinkhole, which was surrounded by dangerously steep cliffs. The injured villager was pulled to safety and immediately transferred to hospital.
