Yesterday the Senate voted 50-49 along party lines to begin debate on a budget resolution that would include parts of Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus package. Biden spoke to Senate Democrats on a phone call yesterday, urging them to press on with the bill. ‘President Biden spoke about the need for Congress to act boldly and quickly,’ Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters after the call. ‘He was very strong in emphasizing the need for a big, bold package. He said that he told Senate Republicans that the $600 billion that they proposed was way too small.’ Throughout the week, Biden has invited more than 20 senators over to the Oval Office to discuss coronavirus relief in an attempt to gain bipartisan support for his bill. The American Rescue Plan addresses both the health and economic crises caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
