World Health Organization Holds Coronavirus Briefing | LIVE | NowThis

5.1 MILLION CASES & COUNTING: The World Health Organization delivers updates on the latest worldwide developments of the coronavirus outbreak. Yesterday, the global number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 crossed 5 million, according to numbers compiled by Johns Hopkins University. WHO says they have raised only $400 million of the $1.7 billion they project they will need to adequately respond to the coronavirus pandemic, the Wall Street Journal reported this week. Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to permanently cut off U.S. funding to the organization if they do not give in to his demands of ‘major substantive improvements’ within 30 days. Adm. Brett Giroir, assistant secretary of Health and Human Services, alerted the WHO executive board by letter on Friday that there is ‘no time to waste’ and that the WHO must begin an independent review process of their response to COVID-19 ‘now,’ the Associate Press reports. The WHO declared a global health emergency six weeks before Pres. Trump declared a national health emergency.
