The world’s total population is expected to reach 8 billion by around November 15, 2022, with India projected to overtake China as the world’s most-populous nation sometime in 2023. Increased levels of life expectancy at birth is among the main reasons for the growth cited by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs while releasing the estimate. After the global population reaches 8 billion, more than half of the increase in the number of people around the world through the year 2050 will be from countries in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the World Population Prospects report published on July 11, 2022.
